We began our trip in Amsterdam – the city of canals, bicycles, cheese, wooden shoes and very tall people.
Amsterdam has 165 canals with a combined length of more than 100 km.
For some living by the canals is not enough – Amsterdam has about 2500 houseboats.
Amsterdam is extremely bicycle friendly and the best way to see the city is by bike. There are clearly marked bicycle paths everywhere – Oslo has a lot to learn from Amsterdam.
Amsterdam was a host city for the 1928 Summer Olympics and of course we had to visit the Olympic Stadium. The stadium is still in use and will host the 2016 European Athletics Championships and the 2014 Dutch national championships in speed skating (Allround and Sprint).
Amsterdam is a lovely city and Amsterdammers are friendly and relaxed, but they seem to have a bit of a problem with colors.
Finally, the sun set over the canals…
…and it was time to go to sleep.
